rubber?

I'm pretty sure there is a technical article on the Pelican website that explains in detail how to change the seal. If it is the seal I'm thinking of, it isn't made of rubber, but more of a very sticky tar like substance. It comes in a roll, wrapped in wax paper, I think I got mine from JCWhitney. I don't remember what the technical name is, but you can probably look for it under the heading of "Windows" or something. As far as replacement, you have to take your seats, the back pad, and trim around the rear window off (at least the trim, the other two just make it way easier). The only advice I have that isn't in the tech article is keep massive amounts of carb cleaner around as the stuff is incredibly messy, and don't let it get too warm before you install it or else it is like trying to world with hot silly putty.

1/4" butyl tape. I belive 3M's "Window Weld" is a butyl tape product--it might be more modern, though.

That is the stuff you use to hold the rear window in place and keep water from coming through it. There is a separate seal on the outside of the window that covers the gap between the firewall and the engine lid. This just pulls out of the channel on the firewall and the new one presses in. Likely with the help of glycerine or soap to lube it, screwdrivers to do the pushing, and lots and lots of swearing.

Check an auto glass place, they would have to have it there.
Keep your head down. Where did your car come from? Any others around the country?

my head is raised always!
there are about 4 or 5 914`s in Israel and they where half smuggled to the country in 1971 (they are all 1971 1.7L)
as rental cars, originally they were 10 cars
but with time...
i am in the middle of the process of saving it now after being hit hard from behind while parking.

but got to stay optimistic.

I am going to buy some of the butyle tape for my car in the next few days. If you can't find any where you are let me know and I will send you some.
