valve adjustment screws
What are the right valve screws for a 73 2.0L
If I have 8mm screws then I must have the wrong rockers? If the right rockers then why would the srcews only last 600 miles? If I have the wrong rockers are any 2.0 (meaning non 914)rockers ok? Info: These are the first 600 miles this motor has ran. They were a little hard...naw..alot hard Yes they were adjusted properly, checked a half dozen times with the motor on the stand and twice in the car

I believe that the switch from 8mm to 10mm adjusters happened during the 73 model year, so some 2.0s would have the smaller adjusters. Those are valued by people who want to convert over to 911 adjusters, BTW.
I don't think adjusters from "just any" engine will work--many engines have significantly different geometry than our Type IV ones do. --DD

I have 8mm 911 swivel-foot adjusters. Put 'em in prolly 60000 miles ago. Wear is even and light. I suggest you try those.

Yes, there are. You have to take some material off the part of the rocker that the threaded part of the adjuster goes through. (The part that would be closest to the valve tip.) I have heard numbers in the 0.060" range mentioned. You may also need to shim the rocker stands, but that gets into the realm of setting the rocker arm geometry.

no shims for me, just a little filing down of the base of the rocker where adjuster screw threads in. There are several free threads below the rocker, but I guess the feet need room to swivel.

8mm stock T4 screws have the larger "mushroom" contact area than the Type one beetle 8mm screw.
I thought just the 1.7's had the 8mm screw?
