Lightweight Lug Nuts

Not that I'm in the market for these, but I was lurking on eBay and saw these? Would they be strong enough? Is it safe running Aluminum Lug Nuts?

You gotta use steel lugs if you want to pass tech on the race track.

The stock closed-end lug nuts on many 911s are aluminum. They deform pretty easily, it's common to see them where the hex at the outer end is rotated 5-15 degrees from the hex at the inboard end...

Steel open-ended ones are required by many racing sanctioning bodies. Open-ended aluminum might work for some (you can check the thread engagement easily)... I wouldn't bother, though--those bright blue things look to be screaming "STEAL ME!!!"

Aluminum lug nuts are fine, and have been used on 911s since 1966 or so. HOWEVER, although the ones in the picture are advertized as "FITS ON ALL IMPORTED AND DOMESTIC VEHICLES THAT USE NUTS WITH 14x1.50 THREAD SIZE !", you need to look at the next line down:"(EX: PORSCHE from 1965 to 1997)" (Should read "1953-1997".) They also don't fit Audis or any other VW products. VW/Audi, Mercedes, and Porsche use a "ball" seat, and these are tapered like a BMW or Volvo. Kinda cuts the application list down, doesn't it? A HUJGE percentage of imported cars use 12mm studs or bolts, further cutting the list. Form over function, if I ever saw it! The Cap'n

I'm not looking to buy any, actually I think they look a little too rice for me, but, I was curious what people "in the know" would think.

I ordered a set but they haven't shown up yet. Seems to have been a honest mistake. Guy sent them out today.

I wanted them because they are open end.
