matching springs with torsion bars
I have some front torsion bars from a mid 80's SC 911. First can anyone tell me if they fit in a 914 (I'm assuming they do). Also what rear springs would be a good match for them, I have Eibach HD (110??) springs in from the PO, and the rear actually sits too high. It used to sag in the back, but then the engine was out for about 18 months and the back end raised up. I was thinking 140 lbs. might work. I've got 195/50/15's on the car and was hoping that stiffer springs would allow me to drop the car without bottoming out.

Sorry, but they don't fit. The splines are different.
You can get them to fit by using the SC's A-arms and front torsion bar holder thingies. (Real technical term, I know!) One of the benefits of this is that, more often than not, you get the rest of the 911's front suspension. Five bolt hubs, and BIG BRAKES! For torsion bars and springs, the only datapoint on top of my head right now is that Josh2 went to 22mm gun-drilled torsion bars (I think that equates to 19 or 20 non-drilled) and 200# springs or thereabouts. He was very happy with that setup. A common setup locally (local PCA zone rules encourage this setup) is to keep the stock torsion bars, and use 140# springs on the back. 19mm front sway bar, no rear sway bar. Most people seem to feel that the heavier rear springs and front swaybar offset each other, keeping a reasonable balance. --DD |

Thanks for the help. With my mentality I would have MADE those damn torsion bars fit if you didn't tell me about the splines.
