Light weight roof?

I have wondered this for a while now. The roof on my '74 2.0 is much lighter than any other 914 roof I have ever had. Was there a lightweight roof from an aftermarket vendor or maybe a lightweight option from the factory. It appears to be factory correct in every way, except for the weight. The rest of the car is optioned well, with Bilstein shocks/struts, sway bars front and rear and the Fuchs rims. Just curious if anyone has ever heard of a lightweight roof before. Thanks.

Wish some one would make a nice carbon fiber roof for the 914, but I have never heard of a light weight aftermarket roof.

If I recall, the early roof panel may be lighter than the later one. I do seem to recall that I have held ones that appeared to weigh different amounts.

Are all the parts on your roof? The padding, the seals, the felt liner?

What is the finish like? Maybe someone sanded it thinner.

There are a few vendors who have made aftermarket fiberglass roofs for 914s. They were a lot lighter (like 5 lbs instead of 15-20 for stock), but were just a skin and had to be bolted on or fastened in some other manner. I suppose the stock hardware could be attached with some work. Maybe someone did that in your case. How light is your roof?

I am not sure, I have not weighed it but it is really light. It appears to have a factory finish and all the factory hardware. I will have to weigh it and see what it actually weighs.
