'k everyone....just a simple question...what's the deal w/ everyone being all "anti-Auto Atlanta"??? I was thinking about getting some parts from them that Pelican doesn't offer, but am a bit scared away by the things I've heard about them. So should I look elsewhere?

They're just the Big Bad Wolf when it comes to hard-to-find 914 parts, that's all.
I've ordered from them when PP didn't stock the part too. Just make sure they receive your correct order (by e-mail, on-line, or phone), and if there are ANY discrepancies, call them and take care of it ASAP. Sure, they've messed up 1 or 2 orders in the past (2 left outer rocker panels vs. 1 left & 1 right on one order, and the wrong DIN radio dash plate on another), but took care of the blooper with no hassles. |

Nice can of worms you’ve opened
![]() Personally, I’m just disappointed George H. didn’t sign my 700 Tech Tips books like he was suppose too. It even says right on the invoice that came with the book that he was suppose to autograph it (would have been a nice bit of history). Fortunately for me that’s nothing compared to the horror stores you’re bound to hear: from astronomical shipping to “914’s that are ready to drive home cross country” that fell apart as they left the lot. All told from first hand experiences, not some 20 year old urban legend. |

I felt the same way when I first got into the Porsche hobby last summer. The PO of my car highly recommended AA, but everyone on the internet seems to have had a problem with them. All I can say is to give them a try for pieces that you can't find elsewhere.
My experience has been primarily with ebay auctions. My first auction win was for one of their 914 posters. I also wanted another poster plus their tech tips 700. It took me several weeks to finally reach someone their to pay for these items for I could not call from my work (they don't have an 800 number) and they told me to call them instead of going through any online system. My second was for a full rubber seal set. I paid via Paypal several weeks ago and have yet to recieve the pieces. It may have been over a month at this point. Can't go wrong with Pelican. I've also had good luck with Performance albiet procy. Use AA as a last resort, but maybe you'll have good luck. [This message has been edited by David McLaughlin (edited 06-02-2001).] |

I'm local to Atlanta and have dealt with George for many years and have had very few problems. Actually, I've found George to be VERY helpful on a number of occasions when I've needed help. I've seen a lot of attacks on AA, but from my personal experiences, I have not had the described problems.

Keep in mind that Pelican Parts can get virtually anything you would ever need. Just because something is not listed on the web site catalog does NOT mean PP cannot get it for you.
BTW - I have only ordered from AA once, and it was a very marginal experience that I have no desire to repeat. Chris C. |

That's true - there's very little that AA has that we don't have...

Well LilMur9, If you haven't already, check out the post by Wayne of Pelican Parts title "HOLY COW, YOU HAVE GOT TO SEE THIS", and click on the hyperlink. You've never seen an ego like this. He needs to fire his PR manager (Ooops, maybe that's him

Even if PP did not have the part...I would have PP order it from AA and then pay PP.
Ive done it in the past, PP rocks. Im assured of getting the part and I do not have to deal with the bend over shipping AA charges... Hey Wayne...howz my Carrera cooler and fan coming???? 8^) |

I bashed AA and their presence on Ebay. Now they beat themselves..... You can bid on a talk of 10 minutes with Dr.914 himself!!!! I winder if he would listen to all the insanities i could tell them.
We HAVE to do something about this. Let have a GT (get together) in Atlanta. |

Geez, so I take it we don't like this fellow eh? I checked out the "HOLY COW..." link at ebay, the guy sounds pretty arrogant... So far I have definately found PP to be a much more organized, friendly site. But before I place any orders, I'm still looking for the chrome/rubber top windshield seal(which isn't sold online due to poor quality-i can respect that) and a windshield wiper arm. Oh and I need a left rear light cover...it says NLA? What does that mean? Thanks, and I'll try to steer clear of AA from now on! : )

Mike, we're waiting on one silly little part of the kit from Porsche before we ship it out...
NLA means no longer available, and not likely to become available anytime soon... -Wayne |

The US-spec taillight lenses stopped being made. Someone local to me found out about that, so he made it a point to buy up every last one in the supply chain. He tells me that he'll probably be selling them for at least $250 apiece to people who "really need" them.
Ouch--sometimes the free market is a bit painful. The two best pieces of advice I have are: Convert to Euro-spec tail lenses, which are still being made. Locate used lenses. --DD |
