Assuming you removed all the parts to the oil temp sender, and the threads are O.K. Use a copper pipe plug (1/4" size I think), you can fine them at hardware stores or auto parts stores, (of course if you make it to the store then you could buy a sender). The threads (I'm pretty sure on this one) are NPT (Natl' Pipe Thread) and are tapered. If you put a straight bolt in there you will most likely damage the thread and toss little bits of metal into the oil. Soooo if you don't have a 1/4" NPT plug then don't fool around. Sorry to say but I would take the bus to the nearest auto parts store with a new sender. BTW if you are talking about the temp sender not the pressure switch I think they are more then $5, they also vary in calibration by year. They are matched to the gauge. If it is a VDO sender it might have the temp range and part # on the side of the hex part. Oh by the way this all applies to the pressure switch also, but it is even more important to use the right plug.
