Help....Broken Hood Release

Man, I have a mess on my hands. I purchased a 1973 914 2.0 recently and found the front trunk release handle in the floor of the car. Broken smooth off at the handle.

What are your suggestions for gaining access to the front latch mechanism.

I have removed the front bumper in preparation for cutting an access hole but was wondering if there is any other way of releasing the hood latch short of cutting.

My 356 has an emergency cable for this purpose.

Don't cut a hole--there is one already there! Poke a screwdriver through it and push the latch, it should open.
