Post Front Oil Seal Replacement.

Well, during a road trip from Southern to Northern Calif. it looks like my front oil seal went (fan side). It ended up taking me 2 tanks of gas and 4 quarts of oil to get home!!!

So now the question of how to remove the thing the fan is attached to (I think its called the impeller hub). So I can replace the seal.

It looks like after removing the center bolt it should just pull out, but it doesn't seem to want to. Any help would be appreciated.

Im here in Bakersfield Calif. I just changed the seal in mine. if the part your asking about is what i think it is (a 'Y' shaped piece that the fan bolts to) try your local auto zone. The auto zone here allows free rental of parts. that thing dose slip off but you may need to get the puller from a parts store. I had to

The fan hub fits on the crank with a taper, like a tie rod end, you will need a puller. It takes a little to pop it off, but goes on with very little effort.

Remove the 3 bolt that hold the fan to the hub. use a gear puller to remove the hub,The seal dan then be removed. How are your motor mounts? If they are worn now would be the time to replace them.Steve

Another way is to put some stout metal behind the fan hub, then screw the bolts back in and use those to pop it off. Just make sure that whatever "stout metal" you use distributes its load over a wide area, and doesn't concentrate it all in one spot.

I hear that bottle-opener "church keys" are good for this. I used some scrap steel that I had around.

MAke sure when you re-install it to torque it to spec....I have seen many wasted type 4 crankshafts due to fans and hubs that work loose...I actually use loctite on the bolt..
