What should I do about my ugly undercarriage?
Hi Guys....I haven't posted in awhile...been busy on my '14...recently completed the rust repair and bolted in the newly rebuilt engine...now for the question at hand...
I have cleaned and recleaned the undercarriage of the car, but 25 years of road scum, road kill and pot holes have done their work...it just looks ugly, even clean! I have thought about the "undercoat in a spray can" stuff, but heard that it never really dries and everything sticks to it. Also thought about the spray on bed liner material by 3M. Paint the underside with Hammerite. I would stay away from undercoating as I have found that cars with undercoating have more rust as water gets trapped in cracks ang gouges and does not dry cuasing rust. Steve

Take a look at my car on the Pelican gallery. On the front I used Eastwoods undercoating removal, then por-15, then primed and painted it when I had the rest of the car done. The rear is primed and painted OVER the undercoating, as I ran out of the Eastwood stripper and the painter did not want to have the car unmovable any longer. I used the seam at the bottom of the inner rocker as a stopping point and used hammerite on the floor pan.

you may want to look into a product called "Texture Coat" if you have no rust to cover. my uncle does concours restorations and told me to use this for that I am doing. I have stripped off all the undercoating and sandblasted the wheel wells and also the rear engine/tranny area. this can go over bare metal with no primer and blackens up everything very nicely. it comes as a spray bomb. he uses it for many projects, can be found at autobody supply stores or here is their address and info:
