Post clutch spring

help.
I've rebuilt my pedal cluster and i need to ask one question. The clutch spring was broken on the cluster when i took it out so i'm not sure on the correct position. Looking at the picture from the PP rebuild kit I placed the spring the same as it shows. My question though is now the spring pulls the pedal towards the firewall with the cable not hooked up is this correct?

It sure is. Correct free play is 15 to 20 mm. pulling the pedal towards you.

As i understand it, the pedal spring's purpose in life is to maintain tension on the cable while the clutch is not depressed. A cable kept under constant, though minor, tension will last longer than one that is allowed to go slack and then is repeatedly snapped into tension.

...It also won't fall off the roller back on the transmission.
