Red face oil leak from overheated engine

I forgot that I had removed the bolts from the cooling fan the other day and drove my 2.0 liter for about 25 minutes before realizing what was happening. The oil temperature rose quickly to just before the red zone and I limped home with the engine getting pretty hot. It never went entirely into the red but maybe the guage isn't accurate. Later I have noticed an oil leak directly next to the oil filter. Filter is ok..I checked it for tightness, checked for a possible second gasket stuck on the mounting flange, and finally replaced the filter. Still dripping a considerabele amount of oil especially after shutting down engine. It appears to be dripping from the area of the oil pressure relief plug or maybe from the oil cooler seal. I hope it isn't the block.
Anyone had a similar problem? I don't want to have to remove the oil cooler if avoidable.

Sounds like it could be an oil cooler seal...
these seals can be replaced without removing the oil cooler... Just time consuming but can be done

The oil cooler seals can be replaced by working from beneath the car correct? What all has to be removed to facilitate access to them?

It would save everyone's time if people checked the list of tech articles sometimes...

Porsche Crest

True. And the 914 corners better than the Exxon Valdez.

"Better than" doesn't necessarily mean "good enough"...
