anyone use Pelicans "dial guage holder" for crank end play measurement?
HI All
I would like to do the crankshaft end play measurement to be sure I have the correct number of shims installed behind the flywheel. Pelican sells a "dial indicator holder" made to aid in this measurement. Its part number PEL-TOL-P240. Thing is, from the picture on Pelicans website, frankly I cant fathon how to mount or use the thing. Before I order it, I want to make sure that my standard dial indicator will work with it. Anyone have any experiance in using this tool? I have a Starrett (sp?) dial indicator that has a mounting point on the back of the instrument. That mounting lug is at a right angle to the face of the instrument, if you get what I mean. As always, thanks to the brain trust. Curt |

I haven't checked over the holder that we sell. But what you want to do is to bolt on a fixture of some type (the transmission studs work well for that, so does the hole for the starter mounting bolt) that holds the tip of the indicator against the flywheel. Then you shove the flywheel forward and pull it aft and use the indicator to measure the amount of motion.
