914-4 throttle cable

My 914 has a pair of IDF40 webers. The throttle cable outer sleeve at the firewall ( where it passes into the tube adjacent to the clutch cable) is not clamped to anything and moves rather than letting the inner cable move, hence the carbs never open!
It is clamped at the carb end.
Should it be clamped somehere back there, or what does stop the outer moving instead of the inner? I don't see any clamps on PET.
Many thanks....

you'll have to fabricate a holder for the cable sheath.

It is clamped at the carb end, the question is should it be where it enters the tube ...

The tube itself should be held somewhere. Where and how is up to you--the dual Weber setup is decidedly non-stock, so it's up to the mechanic in charge (YOU!) to figure out a nice solid mounting for the sheath.

Wheather the cable is pulling on a pair of webers or the stock FI set up is not the point, either way it connects to an arm that moves something! Th eengine end is basically the same. My question is should the sheath be clamped at both the tube end where it exits the body 'tunnel' AND the engine end where it pulls something :-)

It doesn't really get clamped at the firewall end--just at the engine end. On the EFI cars, there is a bracket on the manifold that the two nuts on the threaded end of the sheath clamp onto.

Not there on the Weber manifolds--so you'll have to roll your own!

Thanks Dave, thats what I thought. I have a bracket at the engine end that the two nuts on the threaded end of the sheath clamp onto, its the other end I was worried about. Previous owner had the sheath end at the tunnel wedged against the tunnel and held by a spring so it couldn't move! I made a new anchorage bracket at the carb end and dislodged the 'kluge' he had set up and the linkage stopped working.
My problem looks to be the inner cable is to long, and I can easily fix that!
Cheers
Neil
