1.7 914 EFI still wont run after EFI rebuild & new disty
Hi guys,
If you've been watching my (lack-of) progress rebulding my 914's efi, you'll notice that I had most everything wrong with my car:- wrong plugs, poor wires, old cap/rotor, blown diaphram on the disty, leaky throttle body, no vacuum (none), rich running conditions, no idle when hot, poor fuel economy (14-15mpg), wrong ignition timing, etc. I went through everything, had the injectors rebuild, one was bad, one became intermittent, bought an autozone Injector, that died in a week, got more 1.7 injectors from the local salvage (VW) yard, they didn't work, & now have even more injectors from Nate at 914-parts, but here lies my current problems. with 32psi fuel pressure (yes, It's high, but I'm still trying to get the car back to normal), I cannot get one bank's (1 & 2) injectors to fire. I have fuel pressure, but for some reason, even with the noid light saying my injectors are getting power, & even by pinging each injector on the battery to ensure they're not seized, my spark plugs remain dry & the car will only (barely) run on on the other two cylinders. I'm starting to think that somehow I've damaged the harness while I was cleaning around it. I did get all 3 grounds re-connected on the top of the case under the intake, & cleaned all the connectors & the brass 3-way connector that bolts to the through-bolt, though maybe a peice of latex glove got in there or something that's disrupting the ground: meaning, I do have power to the injectors, but maybe not enough volts to actuate the injectors: Does anyone know what the voltage should be at each injector lead? Can anyone think of anything else to check? I'm contemplating replacing my new trigger points with my original set: as my rebuilt distributor came with new points/condensor/trigger points/diaphram on it, & I managed to keep my old set. I do plan to re-check my points gap, but I'm hesitant to check my timing again since I cannot get the car to run at 3500rpm on 2 cylinders if that's NOT the case. Help? I look forward to returning the favor some day.... Mark

Ok, cleaned all the grounds, car started. Here's what I think has happened:
1. Grounds were poor: I took my dremel & the wire wheel & went over the battery terminals, & ground strap stud on the body, as well as the three splade connectors on the top of the case as i rotated the bolt around a few times to grind down/off all the rust on the bolt (not that it was bad). I also dipped all 3 splades into denatured alcohol & tighted the grip, & inserted/removed them about 5x each before leaving them on there, so good fresh metal touching. At that point, I had voltage to my injectors, though my injector harness female splades were stretched out too far, so had to take a probe & close them in a little for a good enough hold, so my problems were multiple, but most importantly, the grounds were poor. Also, the car starts/spins much faster now when cranking....I just have to solve my high-idle issue now...(see other post). Mark
