Post Tires and Gearing

I'd like to run lower than stock tires, but would also like to retain near-stock gearing and a reasonably accurate speedo.
Is this realistic? If so, what trans mods are required. TIA as always.

Get thee to Charlie Davis' gear comparison web page:
http://members.rennlist.com/chuxter/901&915ratios.htm

Take a look at all of those nifty 901 gear ratios. Then realize that you can flip them around backwards so that you can have the ratio go the other way! Now, sit down with your calculator and work out the change in gearing due to the tires. Then figure out how to invert that change in each gear by using one of the gears in the table.

When you have your final list of gears, send it to Paul Guard at Guard Transmission ( gears@gte.net). I think he's in the middle of moving from Hawaii to the Mainland (CA or OR, forget which) so it may take a while for him to get back to you. Send him a check for many thousands of dollars, because some 901 gears are really hard to find and really expensive--plus he'll have to machine 2nd gear off a mainshaft and make it replaceable, or find the rare "904" mainshaft that doesn't have a second gear as an integral part.

Oh, your speedometer will still be off, unless you send it to someone who can re-calibrate it for you (I think Pelican's gauge service might be able to).

So, are you sure you want to keep the stock overall gearing?

Verily Darling, Thou hast a way with words, yet I am smote with your talk of costs higher and higher yet, more spent am I now than spending.
Time to do some math. Thanks!
