Wheel Adapters
I have a set of 944 phone dials that I bought to put on my 914 which has a Rayco body kit on it. I am not going to race this car and am wondering what the safety record is on purpose built 2" adapter/spacers that go from the 4-130 to 5-130. Also, where I am in Alaska there are not many Porsches of any model to measure and I would like to add a Badge to the front trunk lid. I would like to know the "proper" distance from the front edge of the lid to the bottom of the badge.

Adaptors: I don't like 'em. I don't trust the amount of material you get around the holes, even for a street car.
Badge: The "proper" placement is inside the glove box. The factory didn't put the badge on, so there isn't any "proper" placement--or rather, what's "proper" is what you like!! That said, I've heard people talk about putting the bottom of the badge (or sometimes the top) even with the top of the headlight buckets. --DD

Hi Dave,
I guess what I am asking about adapters is, does anyone here know of one that has broken under normal street conditions short of sliding sideways into a curb or something solid? Of course I would rather have 911 hubs and brakes, but don't want to afford them with a stock engine. Secondly, I sit corrected (it's hard to type standing) on my use of the term "proper" related to a badge on a 914. When I got this car it was totaled, twice over. The front end was folded down, the rear end was shoved so far in that the engine and tranny were 2" ahead of where they belong. I elected to put a stiffening kit in the middle of it and replace everything else. What I ended up with is pleasing to look at, but, you would probably have to call it more of a Porsche concept car. Since it is trying to look like other Porsches that have badges on them, I think it would look better with one. I'll just have to put it where I think it looks good. I also own a couple of Jags. One is a totally proper V-12. The other has a built 350/350 in it which is known as a lump to Jag owners. On the Jag forum that I belong to the owners of the two types of cars are very segregated. Is that the case here on this forum? If so, what kinds of mods do you consider "proper"? I understand that a true purist would only own a 914 equipped exactly as it came from the factory with only OEM replacement parts. Leon |

no divisions here I have noticed, different story in off topic...
spot here tells about badge for trunk, http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/914_hood_crest/914_hood_crest.htm I would get hubs drilled before doing spacers/adaptors I have a "Karmann" stick on badge that I want to put on mine after it is painted. Do what you like with your car, I know I do. As Mark Hamill so eloquently put it in the classic motion picture, Corvette Summer. "It's my car"

There is something of a split in the 914 community, but at least so far we don't take our cars as seriously as a number of other enthusiasts. That doesn't stop some people from picking on cars they think have "tasteless" mods--particularly when those show up on evil-bay with typical sales-speak attached.
My own car has a badge, placed rather higher than I think looks OK. And I would prefer if it didn't have it at all, but I don't want to bother with removing it and filling the holes... And my car's not exactly a real "looker" anyway. ![]() --DD
