Post Roland's right again!

I hooked up my bent shifter and noticed a real drag on shift tod action coming from ( of course!) the tunnel end shiftrod bushing!
I'll have to pull the rod out and straighten
it to fix it right. Anyone have a good procedure for getting the font shift rod out
( side shifter). Thanks

Just unbolt it where it attaches to the gearshift lever (the one visible in the cockpit), and slide it out from the engine bay (engine must be removed I suspect).

You can pull the front rod out the bulkhead after disconnecting the coupler as noted. I've pulled the rod on both our 1973 and 1974 and it will come out with the engine still in. This is a great time to put in a new bulkhead bushing and make sure to use new set screws front and rear when reassembling the couplers. Good luck.

Thanks guys! I think I'll do the order up the bushing and do this right. BTW, those
"cone screws" on the couplers, they only go in one way ( in the holes in their respective shafts) and people talk about "adjusting" their shifter...I just never saw a provision for this.

The adjustment is done where the front shift rod connects with the gear shift lever. There is a clamp that holds it; you can loosen the clamp bolt and move the rod with respect to the lever, and then tighten the bolt.

Thanks. I haven't had my shifter out yet, looks like I'm going to have to anyway.
