Post Tire Choices.

The project continues, and I've elected to use a set of 4 15X8" BBS rims in my 914 until I find those 16" fuchs at a reasonable price. I understand that the choices in 15" rubber are getting limited.

Any suggestions WRT decent tires? The car will primarily be used on the street and for some autocross and PCA DE next year. I don't expect to log more than 5000 miles per year.

Thanks for any opinions offered.

Dave, I have a '73 911 which is used about the same as you describe your intentions. I am using Dunlop D60 A2's and am extremely happy with them. They ride well and handle very well in wet or dry conditions. I have gotten almost 2 years out of the rear (which I am fixing to replace), and the same out of the fronts, which have a fair amount of life left in them. Good luck.

i purchased the 7 & 9" fender flares for my 1974 primarily because I wanted to have larger tires. I spoke to a long time 'teener owner and he recommened me NOT to use larger tires because the handling would be reduced (especially in wet weather).

Can anyone verify/debunk that?

thanks.
rob.

Thanks Greg, duly noted.

Rob:
From a traction perspective its true about wet and particularly snow (Look out for those Camaros in the winter, eh!), but bunk otherwise. Ya don't see many skinny-tired cars on the race track. There is that unsprung weight thing though, and your wife won't like those 225s and that small diameter steering wheel when she's trying to parallel park.
The guy restoring my car said that a stock 2.0 'feels' better and is more fun to drive than a fat tired one. Lighter steering maybe? Maybe that's what your friend is referring to.

DDS-

I just purchased a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE950s mounted on 2L Fuchs. I have been very pleased plus they run quiet. They have a cool tread design and the hype is that they are a great rain tire. The parking lot at work just got a new skin of asphalt and during a heavy rain tried to break it loose. The tires gripped very well, my old 165's would spin in 1st & 2nd in rain.

Best regards,
Tom
