Center Console w/ AC
I have a '76 914 with dealer-installed AC under the dash. Was there ever a center console manufactured for this set-up? Obviously it would be several inches shorter than the normal console we have come to know and love!

There were two center consoles for A/C. One that came with the DPD A/C, and one with the VPC A/C. They are slightly different, but I don't know if you have to use the "correct" center console or if you can use the other one as well.
The major difference from the photos I've seen is the way the gauges are mounted. One of them staggers the gauges left-right-left (or was it the other way 'round?). The other one still has them in a row, but closer together. It also tilts them toward the driver. Both are shorter than the stock console, if I interpret the photos correctly. I think that Brett Johnson's "914 Restorer's Guide" has photos of the different consoles. I think that's where the photos I'm remembering came from. You can buy that book from Wayne and Tom. --DD |
