Tim, thanks for the input. Yes the injection is in a box, carbs instaled, why do you say the targa top will find it self as a table top? is it realy nice driving topless ? Can it be driven at freeway speeds w/o the top ? if so thats kool !!! unless its raining .

Again, which is the largest tire size I can fit on a 5.5 rim? what would be the lowest profile? The speedo is probably set up for 185/70 ? or similar diameter , right? So it will be off, if I use smaller diameter, but performance wise it will be better , I bet ?? !!
Thanks again , to all of your feed back. happy driving, Peter

I put 195-60-15 on my stock rims and am happy, some prefer 185-65, closer to stock height. 195 is as wide as I would go.

Top off and windows up is pretty quiet on freeway

With stock wheels, you can usually but not always fit 205s on a 914. Some cars will rub on one rear fender, though. 195s should not rub unless you've got Bug wheels on the car.

Lowest profile is anything you can find.

Preferred sizes are 205/60-15, 195/65-15 (which are close to the original diameter), 205/50-15 (popular race tire size), and 195/60-15.

You can get some sweet tires in 195-55-15, which is the oddball size that came with my integra, 6" wheels on that I think. 205 seems like it would be stretched pretty wide on those little 5.5 wides.

Why are wheels and tires still imperial measures(or partially in inches anyway)still?

Buy a really nice 1.7 or 1.8 motored car. Do a SIX conversion ASAP!

I really enjoy mine!

I bought my '74 2.0 for $2200, did my conversion for $4000 and sold the 2.0 motor for $1500.

Well, we have had the meeting of the minds, we have agreedon the price. I have 3 weeks before I fly up and drive home almost 1500 miles. has any one slept in thei 914 while driving alone? meaning you have both seats to lie down on. I will be leaving by 3pm on sat with the aim of being in Clearwater som time sunday pm. Tires look to be ok. Have spear bealt. Its carburated. Oil will be changed. A box full of extras, the original speedo, the Injection and the air box etc, clutch wire, 2/ 914 jacks, rotor, How many gallons fit in a 75 ? What sort of milage should I expect? I will take it easy, since i do not know this cars durability. as I know my 911's endurance. and dependability. What should I bring with me, for the return trip, car wise ? other than a nice pillow !! (: . Plug tool? is that the mini plug or the reg size? I realy know nothing about the 914's , but thats kool , I have a lot to learn .
2 laps for the Pettit Le mans to end. WOW Porsche 2 over all !!!!!the Dumas car / Penske. Audi wins. Road Atlanta.

All for now i hope I have made a good choice !!???

Now need to organize the garage, (throw away lots of **** as my wife puts not exactly with those words !!) to fit the kid !!!! next to dady 911.

Thanks for all your comments.

Happy "spiritted" driving !!! Peter

The 75 should hold 16 gallons in its tank, like all other 914s. The light in the fuel gauge will come on with about 1 gallon left; if the light comes on when you are not in a corner it is time to find a gas station, no matter what the gauge says.

Fuel economy will depend on a whole lot of factors, including how the carbs are set up, your right foot, and so on. Figure anything from 18-30 MPG, so the total range will generally be "rather more than your bladder can take"! ;)

Plugs are a regular size, they fit the larger of the two plug sockets that came in my big box o' Craftsman tools. (13/16 inch?) A locking extension is a Very Good Idea for changing plugs, because the plug sockets like to hold onto the plugs tightly and the plugs are underneath the engine tin.

Which grade of gas is recomended to be used in a 2.0 L / 75 with carbs ? Can an octane boost fluid be used from time to time? thanks for any comments,
happy "spiritted" driving to all, Peter

Dave at Pelican Parts 10-18-2007 07:26 PM

Stock motor, stock cam, stock compression, with carbs? Regular unleaded. High compression and big cam? Probably premium...
