Drive 914 with one drive-shaft??

Odd question here: Can a "standard" 914 - 901 tranny be driven with one drive shaft removed? Of course the shaft spindle would have to be bolted in place to keep the rear wheel hub on. I assume one side of the tranny output would have to be "locked/bolted" to keep it from turning.

If this were done, would the tranny operate normally with one-wheel drive? Or would the tranny self-destruct? Any recommendation on which shaft would be better to remove, left or right?

(And don't ask why anyone in their right mind would do such a thing.....that assumes incorrectly that I am in my right mind.)

You'd have to lock one output flange so it didn't move, so all the torque could go to the other. I'm thinking it likely that the diff would wear out relatively quickly, as it will be seeing a whole lot more loading (or at least movement of the parts) than it normally does.

But I obviously don't know that for a fact.

I have seen a couple of 914s break their CV joints at the Q in San Diego and they stopped, could not move. The resident Porsche mechanics said DO NOT TRY TO DRIVE OR THE TRANNY WILL BE DESTROYED.
