My rear wheels are squeaking while I drive. I've narrowed it down to the rear brakes because when I apply the brakes, the squeak goes away.
Also if I'm driving, if I apply just the parking brake the squeak goes away. I've looked at the pads and cleaned them with brake cleaner. The outside pad is twice as thick as the inner one, on both wheels. What do you think? |

It sounds like your pads have been toasted by driving with the venting clearance set incorrectly. The wear on the pads should not be nearly that uneven.
Your best bet is probably to get new pads, use your favorite anti-squeal trick(s), and be sure to set the clearance correctly. If the caliper seems to be dragging or leaking then it needs to be rebuilt or replaced. Good luck, ------------------ Chris C. 73 914 2.0 70 911E Targa campbell.chris@gte.net |
