After a 45 minute test drive just now, I got home and thought I would check the engine out for anything out of place, leaks and what not (the car is still pretty new to me) and I've been doing lots of little things with it.
When I stuck my face in the engine compartment I noticed that the passenger side was quit a bit warmer to the face. Actually A LOT warmer. Is this normal? The engine is stock and the temp. guage is reading just above center. Which has been normal since I've owned it. The only thing I can think of is that it's the oil cooler causing the extra heat.. ------------------ Eric '75 914 2.0 [This message has been edited by RustyWa (edited 09-08-2001).] |

Is the passenger's-side J-tube from the heat exchanger capped off? If it's just open, heat can come up through it.
Ditto if you have holes in the engine tin from A/C setups or what have you. --DD ------------------ Pelican Parts 914 Tech Support A few pics of my car: http://www.pelicanparts.com/gallery/Dave_Darling |

The passenger side J-tube has the blower duct connected to it. Maybe it came loose, I was messing around there the other day.
I'll have to check the engine tin but I believe it is pretty good. I think the rear of the tin (vertical piece) needs to be clipped back on to the tranny is all. I will go over everything I can think of on that side. --------- Eric '75 914 2.0L [This message has been edited by RustyWa (edited 09-08-2001).] |

Check all the ribber seals between the engine tin and the body as they tend to rot after 25 years or more and can let huge amounts of heat from the exhaust up top. Good luck.
