Why not try the POR-15 hi-temp paints. I have used their grey manifold paint on the race car muffler and it is great as have some others here. Powder coating could be done but tends to be expensive. Good luck.

Acatually if you are having numerous pieces powder coated(the same color) the price tends to drop down, than if you where to just get a single piece done. Powder coating is the best way to go. No runs, drips, missed spots. And its resistant to most cemicals and chipping.

No, there is a bunch of colors! I had all my engine tin including the engine fan housing done in satin black for $150. Looks great and cleans up nicely.

I don't have any personal experience with it, but FYI Eastwood makes a "home powder coating" kit that is not terribly expensive. If it really works, it could be a great option for a major resto or custom project.

Look at the sheet metal painting issue this way. Quality spray 10 @ 5.00 a can. Engine degreaser 5 @ 2.50 a can. 6 hours of you valuable time. ( say 25 bucks an hour???) plus cut knuckles...and paper...over spray on everything in your shop...
50+12.50+150= 212.50 buckaroos... And the finished product wil only look half as good as powder coating...I had 40 pieces Powdered includng the tp latches ![]() |

Personally, I like Allen-head screws for the engine tin. The only screwdriver I've found that fits the engine tin screws is really huge. There isn't room to use it in the engine bay, and I really mangled several of the screw-heads by using the wrong sized screwdriver on them.
I bought Allen-head screws because it's not hard to fit one of those L-shaped "keys" into the bolt-head, almost no matter where it is. Remember that one screw facing the firewall that you have to remove when you replace the alternator... You'll never get that out with the big-ol screwdriver while the engine's in the car. --DD ------------------ Pelican Parts 914 Tech Support A few pics of my car: http://www.pelicanparts.com/gallery/Dave_Darling |

Oven. Letting it sit outside won't get it hot enough to melt the powder. Plus it'll get leaves, and bugs, and who-knows-what in it.
