914 GT Clone

I believe I have found the car I am looking for. My next quest is to find a reputable shop to turn it into a GT. Do you have any suggestions? I would like this to be a perfect example, not just a conversion. I know TRE can do it, but I am in the Southeast. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

For the price and time required for such a project, $500-800 freight to the right shop is going to be the least of your concerns. This is going to be a $30-40,000 project and whatever shop you choose will have your car for a year or more. If you are serious about having a nice one done, I would look nationally for someone to do it. This is not to say that there's noone hear you that is up to it. I am sure if there is, someone will pop in and guide you. If it were my car, I would be talking to the usual 914 suspects like Brad@ 914limited, Jim@ Patrick Motorsports, and Al Johnson @ Zuffenhausen, among others...

I would call Steve Limbert at Air Cooled Racing 717 432 4116 He is the man who had the 18 & 19 cars at Rennsport . He does have a web site but he is best reached by phone.

Perry Keil at 914 Network is another good choice. I think he's in Parsons TN.

I have no personal experience but I've seen nice looking cars come out of AirCooledClassics (out of Knoxville I think)

914 Gt

Don at Air Cooled Classics in Knoxville maintains several race cars, plus he did the C4 backdated Carrera featured in Excellence. They have a dyno, also.

Don Ramsey at AirCooled Classics in Knoxville did a great job on my 914/6. Major body work and paint after an accident, and upgraded the engine to a sweet 2.7. The paint work is amazing.

Don kept me informed, sent build pictures and I was welcome to stop by anytime.

Thumbs up 914-6 Gt

Hey Man!
We be happy to have the opportunity to build you a GT clone.
We have built a bunch of them. We also race one.
The green one of Doc's was a real mess when it came in. Thanks Doc!
It turned out great, BUT it was a lot of work! Go take a look at it. He is in Nashville too
Here is a couple pics of some we have done.
Feel free to give me a shout if ya like.
I have a 71 that I am slowly building for my self.
The red one won the best prepared car award at the CMP PCA Club Race a few years ago.

The blue one has a 3.2L in it.

Thanks for you consecration!
