Hello I've never posted here before.
But I have a question. Supposedly, the 74 2.0 have a compression ratio of 7.3:1 . Says so in the manual. So seeing that the car is 27 years old, the compression probably went down some. So i wonder if I turbo charge the whole thing is is gonna blow up in my face? It's either this or putting in a 911 engine. OK thanks |

Actually, I think the CR of the 2.0 was 7.6:1 originally.
The compresison ratio won't go down with wear, though the compression pressure will. On the subject of turbo'ing, a couple of people around here can comment. Jeff and Sammy both have done that, and hopefully they'll talk about it. One thing to think of--if your engine is old and tired now, how do you think it will react when you force it to turn out 1.5 times as much power without beefing anything else up? It might not last too long that way... Then again, it might go for a good while. But you can always blow it up by cranking the boost up. ...Just don't pretend that it's going to be inexpensive either way you go. If you get the Six conversion done while "only" spending $8K (and doing most of the work yourself), count yourself lucky. --DD ------------------ Pelican Parts 914 Tech Support A few pics of my car: http://www.pelicanparts.com/gallery/Dave_Darling |
