Question another lonely wire

1974 914/1.8 Guess who should have shot a roll of film in the engine compartment before unhooking everything last year? Anyhow, now I have one more mystery wire, and I think that's it. It's a yellow wire (looks medium yellow) that comes out of the FI harness by itself next to the 12-prong plug that plugs into the back of the relay board (towards the rear of the car). I suspect it also plugs in to the board somewhere, but I'm not sure. Your help is greatly appreciated, as this is the last one to hook up before I try starting the car for the first time since last October!
Will

Well if its a big phat yeller wire...it is probably the starter wire that hooks up to the starter solenoid. It actually should not be in the FI harness (No yellow wires in the FI harness as far as I know) but should be in the regulator plate harness. Check the wiring diagrams for location.

It's about a 14 gauge wire... and if I put power to it, the fuel pump starts. The fuel pump will also start by depressing the airflow plate a little bit (as it should). I couldn't get the engine to crank over until I remembered Dave darling's advice about the big mess of relays under the passenger seat. I spliced together the two big yellow wires (10 gauge) and the engine cranks over. Now I just need to know what that last wire is. Maybe it's not the FI harness but I think it's related. Anyhow, it's in the same wire loom as the 12-socket bundle that comes in from the rear of the engine compartment and plugs onto the rear 12-pin connection on the regulator/relay board (the plug towards the back of the car that runs front to back).

Hey, I figured it out. I guess that circuits class came in handy after all. It is an auxiliary fuel pump feed that hooks up to a circuit that's powered just when the starter is cranking, so that the pump build pressure even if the AFC plate isn't open enough. Hooked it up to T-IV (terminal IV on the wiring diagram of the relay board) and it came to life. Thanks anyhow. - WD

If you check http://www.pelicanparts.com/914/parts/Electrical/914_electric_74_AFC-B.jpg , you'll see that it should be hooked to pin "II" of that connector. If I remember correctly, II and IV are connected together inside the relay board.

Thumbs up

Thanks, Dave, you're right about both the correct terminal (II) and the fact that II and IV are on the same circuit. I just stuck it on IV as they are equivalent, and there isn't anything else on the AFC that uses the other terminals. The car is up and running and sounds pretty good (at least as good as it can until I put the muffler back on).
