914/6 Conversion: Engine oil cooler question

So things have been going extremely slowly on my 914/6 conversion but we are making progress. So the shop is dry fitting everything currently and was inspecting the new oil tank and lines that I got from Patrick Motorsports which seem to fit just fine, but there is a problem with the engine mounted oil cooler. It seems that the input on the cooler where line will come into the cooler is blocked by the driver side swing arm on the rear suspension. In all my research that I have done over the last year and a quick search through this board this is the first I have heard of this problem. Patrick has a modified cooler but costs some $$$$, is there any other way to get around this, or can anybody shed some more light on this new found issue?

Thanks

A couple of ways ....

The preferred method is to heliarc a 90 degree AN fitting on the suction pipe. This will clear the suspension ear. I've heard anywhere from $50 (you supply fitting) to $300.

You could cut the support and the pipe back about 1/2 way to the flange and have a straight fitting heliarced there.

Other than that it's"

1. Obtain a 914/6 oil cooler

2. Run a Patterson tank up front and pay for the lines, thermostat. Makes it easier for a front mounted auxillary cooler.

The oil cooler mod is a pretty well known thing, sorry you didn't find any info on it earlier!

I am having my oil cooler modified now by Rich Johnson. For $180.00 he welds on a new AN fitting or metric fitting ( your choice ) and ships it back to you. For $30.00 more he will flush and pressure test the cooler. He does great work and many happy customers out there.
