2 that I know of.
Steve Malmzx 300ZX motor Philip Haun Buick V6 http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/pmpre/pm.cgi?login=Blue-Thunder&action=display& I'm sure there is more. Considering putting one in my rustoration once my restoration is finished. [This message has been edited by Conrad W Peden (edited 09-29-2001).] |

Dave Snider did a Buick V6 conversion into a flared black 914 here in So Cal, which is now owned by Aaron Goldsmith, but the engine is munched. The block had some kind of meltdown or cracking problem.
Personally I figure if you're gonna go through all the trouble and expense, why not just do the SBC (V8)? Smoother, more powerful, and better supported by the aftermarket. ------------------ Chris C. 73 914 2.0 70 911E Targa campbell.chris@gte.net |

I had a 229 3.8 chevy V6 that was fun to drive. I replaced it with a V8. The V8 is the way to go. I have the V6 kit for sale, engine and all parts needed to instal. $1100.

I bought some parts from a guy here in Vegas that had a Chevy 4.3 conversion. The 4.3 has the same bore and stroke of a 5.7 (350) but missing two cylinders keeps the torque to a more managable level for the 914 tranny. It has the same mounting as the later 5.7 so the same adapter kit would work, plus the tranny doesn't have to be shifted back and no clearance problems with the firewall.

Hello
The V6 is shorter and therefore you have more space to the firewall and not have to relocate the rear transmission mount. One swiss is outworking a Audi 2,8 30 V engine & 6 spd trany in his 914. Enough space to add the coolers beside the engine. He also relocatet the firewall to fit better seats and the electronics inside the cabin. Grüsse, Roland |

Wunderbar!!
Both of those are ideas I'd dreamed about before--both the FWD Audi drivetrain, and the radiators on the sides of the engine. Though with the latter, I was thinking of it in combination with a Rotary engine (which takes up very very little space). I'd love to see pictures some time... And hear about it when it runs! ![]() --DD ------------------ Pelican Parts 914 Tech Support A few pics of my car: http://www.pelicanparts.com/gallery/Dave_Darling |

Yup, the V6 has less torque, but is also much less smooth as far as the torque pulses go. The 901 tranny can take around 340 ft. lbs. of torque (2nd through 5th) with a v8, but can only take around 260 ft. lbs. with a v6. The coversion costs the same, v6 or v8, but the parts are much cheaper on the v8, and much more power is available.
