Post no wipers and stubborn steering wheel nut

Well like most I don't have working windshield wipers. I really didn't want to take out the gas tank and all to get to the wiper motor. I figured I would check the switch because not every switch on the steering column is working perfectly. Now here comes the dumb part. I can't remove the nut. It's supposed to turn counter clockwise to remove right??? Ok now stop laughing. Is it likely that the switch is broken or should I prepare to remove the motor?

An idea from the ignition switch replacement article: Get a big breaker bar for the nut. Get "the club" (or similar device) for the steering wheel. Use the "club" to hold the wheel steady and crank on the breaker bar.
