Fuel lines

Just installed a new carb on my 1.8. all EFI was removed. What is the proper way to plug the fuel return line? At the tank? or can I just plug it at the engine compartment? Also, is it really required to install a fuel regulator between the fuel pump and carb? My regulator adjust from 1 to 4 lbs psi.

THANKS!!

I am not so sure you need a return line for carbs

Cap at tank makes much more sense. Would want it to be reversible, how about threading the return at the tank and capping it. You can get little plastic plugs of various sizes at the
hardware store. I think the reason the tin needs to be all plugged is for cooling airflow, though I don't know how much redundancy is designed into it. I helped a young man put brake lines in his car for fuel lines, worked pretty well. There are prebent lines out there.

I believe the regulator is a safety thing, in case the pump goes crazy I guess. Maybe the fuel pressure spikes when you let off the gas

An easy way to cap the return line is to cut the hose that runs from the fitting on the bottom of the tank to the center tunnel line, put an appropriate-sized bolt in the hose, and clamp it. Works better with new hose, because new stuff doesn't disintegrate when you touch it...

Replace the high-pressure FI fuel pump with a low-pressure carb one. Facet is cheap, and inexpensive. It makes quite a bit of noise, too. Use a good pressure regulator, too--don't count on the pump just putting out the exact correct pressure...

If you must go carbs, go with duals. The single-carb setup is pretty awful on our engines; they're almost impossible to tune decently. They have other problems, as well--things like manifold wetting and fuel puddling, as well as uneven mixture...
