Question 914-6 Question?

Hello

I was wondering how do you tell if a 914-6 has the correct matching drivetrain?

Please let me know info on this 914, need to know is it a real 914-6 or is that a matching color # 15 = irish green?

From the info below what number should the engine and trans be? Is there a way to find that out?

I do not know much about the 914-6's so just a bit of advise, thank you

info on 914-6

Vin # 914 043 1890
Color code # 15

The "15" code is Irish Green. See here for some details:
http://members.rennlist.com/chuxter/914Colors.htm

1510 is the long form of the code; they usually left off the "10" though.

I do not know offhand of a trivial way to cross-reference the engine number to the chassis number or VIN. You can try asking Dave Pateman when he stops by here, or look for him on the 914world BBS. He has compiled a list of 914-6 info, which may include the car you are asking about.

You can see if there is a Certificate of Authenticity for the car, but those do not always have engine numbers. And they are not always exactly correct, at least as far as optional equipment codes go.

The (currently) white one on eBay I bet. Without a COA you cannot definitively determine if the car is a matching numbers example or not. You can however see if the engine is correct within a given range for a specific VIN (here, for example).

Given your VIN, the engine number should be in the range: 6400001-6400889 or 6404001-6405781

For Vin # 9140431890 engine # 6405190 +/-30 would be a pretty good bet.

The engine numbers for a 914/6 are pretty specific. They also are in in different location than 911 motors.

www.pca.org will also provide you with a certificate that attests to the engine number that was supplied by the factory.....of course there is a charge.
