914 door & trunk locks

i have a '73 2.0 914 FI that i am going to start driving more. the drivers door & rear trunk locks don't function. the passenger door lock works but requires much effort to get it to lock / unlock.

should i go see a locksmith? suggestions?

Thanks

My friend Markb is quite adept at lock repairs. He's on 914world.com a lot, I'm sure he can fix them pretty reasonably and he has a lot of spares.

The F&R locks: There's a Tech Article on this site about re-keying your locks. It's easier when you have lots of spare tumbler pins, but you can make do.

You can take the lock out of the outer door handle and clean it up and re-lube it. If the lock cylinder is gummed up that will fix it. Worth a try, at least.

As Dave said the locks can get pretty gummed up and the tumblers just won't work...try cleaning them first....seen more than one set with the old grease so darn solid you would think it was a seam sealer....and the pins just not moving at all....a real good cleaning would be first choice....if then they don't work with your key you will need to re-key
