testing MPS

Who can help me? I am finishing up on a restore of a "74 2.0 with original FI, This car has run very rich since I got it but now it's to the point of drowning the plugs - won't stay running. I suspect a bad MPS but don't know the proper way to test it before spending big bucks on a replacement. I know it needs to hold a vaccum but I don't know the best way to determine this.

Thanks in advance.
CHARLIE

You need this site:

http://members.rennlist.com/pbanders/djetparts.htm#troubleshoot

Memorize it. Roll around in it like a dog. Then come back here if you have more questions. :)

This is another useful site, but the page formatting is buggered up, so it's hard to read:

http://www.rennlist.com/techarticles/djetronicfuel.htm

By the way, I test my MPS with a hand-held vacuum pump you can buy from a parts store.

THANKS!
