Hard to shift into 1st & 2nd

Hello all,
I've got a 1973 side-shifter 2.0 with a shifting problem that is getting worse as time goes by. It is hard to get it into first gear without a grind/clunk sound. Second gear is also hard to shift into sometimes, especially when in a hard turn. I've replaced the linkage bushings at the firewall and transmission linkage support housing to no avail. Could the motor/transmission mounts be the culprit?
Thanks for any tips and advice in advance

They could be. Does the car jump around when you're hard on the gas in 1st gear? Does the gear shift lever move around under heavy braking? Both are signs of broken motor mounts.
