Retractable seatbelts for 914

I have crap seatbelts in my Euro spec 914 73 2.0. The sort that need two hands to put together. I would like to replace them with newer retractable ones, hopefully that bolt straight in without any fuss. Tried some used parts places but they don't answer my emails (possibly because I am in Sydney Australia) The local Porsche parts man says its in the too hard basket.
Suggestions please.
Cheers
Steve

Here are some ideas. I like the 944 idea:

If it's a '73 it should already have retractable belts from the factory. Are they aftermarket/race harnesses or something? If so...not sure why'd you'd want to use 944 belts when OEM belts will work...well, like OEM parts should.

I have one for sale, NOS, here.

I would think a seat belt out of any VW would work. I am pretty sure the window regulator from a Superbeetle Convertible and a late 914 are the same. The rebuild kit is the same part and they look the same next to each other. I would rather have a new Brazilian seat belt than a 40 year old German one, I can say that much. I may just have to go over to Mom's with a seat belt and see.

Alternatively I could go finish the thing and drive it the F over there

Thanks. My 73 was imported into the UK new and converted to RHD by Crayfords. (One of eleven only apparently) It was bought by an Aussie in London and brought to Sydney in 73. The seatbelts are non retractable and seem original for that market. They are like old airline belts that fall off if not tightened properly. I will have a look at VW belts first but I need the stalks as well.

My previous 74 with inertia reel belts was modified front and rear by a fuel tanker while I was sitting in traffic. The insurance co kept the wreck..........

pretty sure the VW belts will work with the buckle end from a 914

Smile Seat belts

I pulled a set from a 75 -914 this week and they are complete. The only thing that was worn was the orange push release tab and I saw that part new on ebay. I am sure the shipping would keep it from being worth the trouble. I do know the 944 sets are very close only without the guide on the top.
