Rear Flares And Stone Chips
How do you keep your front and rear flares protected from stone chips.

There's the clear stuff and the black stuff that PAG used on the widebody 911's. I think Elephant Racing has the clear.
Anyway, if you search over on the 911BBS, there has been a lot of discussion. Pelican probably carries it as well. |

Jaques Whitney too
I bought some "trim-brite" (I just love the way corporate Amerika spells things) transparent protective film from JC Whitney for my front spoiler and it is great. Whitney also has black, and I've seen it at the FLAPS, but never the clear stuff. Seems like 3M or such would make something.

There is a process here in town(waconia,mn) that applies a clear
laminate, has anyone had this done. It seems on a black car like mine the wax would build up on the edges and be a pain to always clean up. I know of the black Carrera panels that are cresent shaped. How have your flares held up to road debris.

I went and bought the thick black/stick-backed film used on the older 911 Turbo rear flares to prevent rock chips...cut then and fitted them to the rear flares of my 914-6. Works like a charm. You can also get the film in clear if you don't want the contrast. See attached photo.

The car in the photo has a clear bra that was applied by a shop that specializes in window tinting - they can do any shape & size. The bra in this photo runs up about 15" from the front edge of the hood and you absolutely cannot tell it's there unless you really look for it. ![]() |
