Question ss exchangers sound different?

I just spent the day putting used stainless steel heat exchangers on. When someone has been there before you, and used ordinary steel nuts to hold the old exchangers onto the studs, they don't come off easy!

Anyway, the ss ones are on, and the sound is now completely different! Going into a Bursch exhaust, the sound is now louder and much more tinny. Like a VW bug. There are no leaks, I triple checked.

Is this normal?

I had the same experience abut a month ago...If they are like my SS exchangers...the walls of the pipes are less that half the thickness of the stock OEM exchangers...I took them off and put the Old ones back on. I did not like the sound...

It's called "header Ring" I got it in my Corvette when I switched to headers. You get used to it. It's music to some enthusiasts ears, like cam rump.

sounds like a BIG VW

Just finished getting my SSI exchangers welded up. But I have to agree that the car sounds like my Bug. I wonder if there is anything that could be wrapped around the head pipe to muffle that header ring. To bad Borla doen't make a muffler for 2.0L 914. Just love the thunder on my 928, of course there is 2.5 more liters.

So all we need is a sound clip of that Borla. BTW your tire is flat only on the bottom side.

I've been working on this car for about 4 years now. It's finished except for some tuning and double checking by the local Porsche mechanic. My goal was to finish it before my next child was born. Her due date is March 25th.

The plan is to trailer the car to the mechanic sometime in the next couple of weeks. After that I'll get one of you to help work on a sound clip.

you should hear the headers and supertrapp exhaust on mine, i can drown out traffic for 1/4 in all directions at full bore, desparately have to do some tuning, makes all the rice burners feel small though
