Question Does anyone buy this story?

1973 Porsche 914 2.0 ****775-303-1447****

I wonder how much they want for that... I can only imagine.

I buy that the odometer reads 636 or whatever. I question if that is 100,636 or not.

The shebazzle with the hoses in the engine compt. worries me and I wish there was a picture of the underside. There are some rust streaks on the rear trunk mat that would also concern me if the car was to be sold as perfect. It is running though and the gauges look about right for an idle condition.

The items I see as suspiciously "upgraded" on a 636 mile car:
  • Painted Chrome Bumpers
  • Seat Belt Light on a '73 means the entire dash frame was replaced
  • There's rust on the rear carpet (but maybe it's from another car.. I doubt it though)
  • Both front and rear carpet have very significant wear, as though this car was sitting in an field for a very long time.
  • The dash looks like a cap and doesn't match the grain of the ash tray.
  • The steering wheel is an obvious recover and several of the groves on the outside of the horn pad seem to have been filled in with a very sloppy paint job (could be a bad photo... or my bad eyes)
  • There's a mess in the engine compartment
  • The rocker covers look like plastic.
  • It looks like a really bad paint job in some spots. Look around the fenders and if you look at the shot of the wheel, you can see that black paint was just sprayed over a red rocker cover... you can see some red behind the stereo on the plate too.
  • The rims don't look stock to me... but I'm not sure.

In short there was too much needless work done on a car with almost no miles on it. I call BS.

Just my 2 cents... and I was bored.

The drivers side head light eyebrow if wonky.

If you had a 10 ft pole I might stil not get close to the engine compartment.

There was some welding in of plate in the front right trunk corner.

Headlight fitment
Porsche badge on Hood
Antenna is on the wrong side of the car?
Porsche badge on Steering wheel
150 mph speedometer
Dashboard cover installed
Vinyl around the stereo is coming off
Console Vinyl doesn't match the rest of the car
Bad air filter
Accellerator pedal is pretty dirty

I only nitpick because of the "mileage". The cars looks pretty darn nice. Of course, it really depends on the rust inspection.

Reno 914

My 2 cents and useless trivia... Sport Haus was an independent shop that expanded into selling "exotics" and is now owned by the local Porsche dealer (don't ask)...car has obviously had lots of "stuff" done to it so it obviously is NOT a low mileage original (odo has likely "turned over"at least 100k...it only registers 5 places + tenths)...all that being said looks like a nice car, subject to being checked for the usual rust spots. Also a 73 would have the "fasten seat belt" light on the dash (I have an original '72 with one)...

Show it to me with the carpet and spare pulled out, and a few shots of the battery and on a lift. Could even be 2 or 300k mi, 1973 is a long time ago.

those are aftermarket Fuchs....look at the center cap. Those don't fit on factory Fuchs
I like the duct tape on the heater hose in the engine compartment.
Carpets are very new, probably from Morph.
Antenna can be on the left or the right front fender. All the radios were installed at the docks (state side) or at the dealerships...Just like VWs of the same vintage.
