Differences EA (W) and EB-Engine?
Hi Gents,
I recently purchased by "mistake" a EB-Engine for my 181 thing. I was told it to be the US-Version of the 1.7 80hp W-engine, but now I learned, that EB is the Californian Version with lower compression and 72hp. My questions are:
I´d like to use the engine as it is, i.e. a 1.7 with fuel injection, but the EA has more torque and thus makes more fun, I assume ... These are the specs I found: W, EA: 8,2 : 1 EB: 7,3 : 1 W, EA: 132 NM bei 2700 U/min EB: 121 NM bei 2700 U/min W, EA: 59 kW (80 PS) / 4900 EB: 53 kW (72 PS) / 5000 Thanks in advance. No clue on the actual differences, but i like your Kübelwagen!

I think its different shapped piston domes. I know on the 2.0l motors, the difference in compression is a function of the flat domed (euro) piston vs the american ones that have a recess on the top.
it would make sense that the US (California) spec cars used different motors to meet more stringent emission needs. Lower compression was a good start. http://www.pelicanparts.com/914/914QA/914Q_euro_vs_usa.htm http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/9144/POR_9144_ENGpis_pg1.htm#item2 I thought the "thing/181" didn't use a type IV motor.. |
You can swap a Type IV in to a Thing; some have taken to calling that a "481".
I'm guessing the pistons are the difference, but I don't know for certain either. --DD |
yes, the difference is in the pistons as the W and EA had domed pistons while the EB had dished pistons.......
I would check the pistons or just run it as it doesn't make that much difference and the Djet FI be nice in the Thing |
