Exclamation A New Speedster ...

FYI...

I noticed this new Opel Speedster yesterday on my way home in the airport in Frankfurt. The car has a mid engine layout, a 2200 ccm water cooled inline four, which puts out about 150 hp. Opel is asking 30,000.00 Euro for it, which is about $28,000.00. Most of the body parts are made of fiberglas, there is also a good amount of aluminum involved in the rest of the construction. The top is removable Targa top, which probably can be stored somewhere in the car (not sure if the car has a trunk)...

I fell in love w/ this car about a year ago. At the time writers were saying GM could bring it here as a Pontiac -I still doubt it.

Import it as a Pontiac? Nah ... import it as a Cadillac and they'll sell every one off the boat. A Caddy Speedster next to a Boxster at a traffic light? Just imagine that ...

With 2002 being the final year for the Camaro/Firebird twins, you wanna piss off the hot-rodding, cheap-horsepower masses with a car costing 2-3 times as much? I don't think so.

Autoweek magazine did a feature several months ago. The car looked VERY SWEET. They said at the time, though, there were no plans to import them

Try this version on for size...the Steinmetz Funster. This bad boy is a modded Speedster w/ a 2.0L 220 HP turbo engine and all the goodies. Oh yeah the weight of the stock one is 1764lbs, this thing must haul! What can I say I'm fond of the color too

PS: If you don't understand why I'm fond of the color click my sig

Isn't the Opel Speedster just GM's version of the older Lotus Elise?

Whatever it is, though--it's still pretty sweet! I'd love to get one of those in the US, Pontiac or Cadillac or whatever. But I'd love even better to get a real Elise...

This car is in the latest issue of Forbes with reference to Pontiac. (received in the mail yesterday) The story is around the changes Lutz is bringing to GM.

Here is Bentley's mid engined concept:

And I have seen Volkswagen's mid engined 12 cylinder concept on TV, but I can't find a picture of it on the web.
