engine lid adjustment
Hi, I have a 1972 914. How do I adjust my engine lid? it has been pushed back on the passenger side and is hitting the rear lid. I can't see any adjustments on the hinge. The rear lid is in the correct position/fitment. Only the engine lid is visibly cock-eyed.
any help appreciated, and tia, michael banchero Last edited by I960ROADSTER; 09-13-2010 at 01:23 AM.. Reason: added better discription |

More than likely the hinge is bent. If it is snugged up tight to the fire wall it should just fall in place.
This is a common point of failure with the older cars. Rust or ripped metal. Take the lid completely off and you should see what the malfuntion is. |

under the two mounting hinges at the at the fire wall there is a 10mm bolt that is under the hinge...loosen and it will move front to rear a little to make the adjustment....also this is the way you remove the lid....

One of the more common causes of the lid being too far back on one side is that the L-shaped bracket that the lid mounts to (on the firewall) is cracking at the corner of the L and sagging. The brackets can be welded and reinforced or replaced.
