any pics??

SO how did it go? I didn't get to attend, since selling my house had to take precedence. The appraiser picked that day to do his walk through. I hear there was a crash??!!!

Any pics of who showed up?

Thumbs up

We had a blast. We had 29 show up, and then two more showed up at the end. Not bad for a cold and rainy winter day, eh?

My little review:

When we arrived, there were already 12 or so cars at McD's with more piling in the parking lot by the minute. I figured maybe a few more would roll in, and they did. One by one by one by one... 10:15 rolled around, I counted 29 914s and a few other water-pumper Porsches in the parking lot! You are all troopers! Who would have thought that we could get that many 914s together
on a cold, rainy winter day? What's a little rain though, right?

We left the lot and headed out on our tour with Phil Culbertson at the head of the pack. I always love the expressions on peoples' faces as they see our little cars all together in a group. It makes me laugh every time.

Anyhow, five minutes later we had our first accident. The roads were VERY slick, and one of our attendees lost control at an intersection, bumped his friend's Boxter in it's door, then sent his 914 diagonally into a street sign post. He banged up his left front fender and front bumper pretty darn bad. Thankfully, there were no injuries.

We headed back on our way over the winding, narrow mountain roads through the rain, mist and fog stopping a few times to take pictures. It was so cold though that we made our stops relatively short. All and all, I didn't mind the weather and I thought it kept our speed down to an acceptable level considering the amount of cars we had.

About six of us at the end of the pack (including myself) got slightly lost on our tour and missed the Page Mill Road exit off of Skyline Blvd. The fog/cloud was quite thick and none of us ever saw the sign. We were the blind leading the blind. Once we realized we had missed the turn we were already miles past where we needed to be. We decided to take an alternative route to get us quickly back to the Alpine [restaurant] instead of back tracking the way we had come.

When we arrive at the Alpine, there was a cheer for our safe arrival (ok, so maybe I'm exaggerating just a tad). Otmar had arrived in his electric powered 914, and Dave Menche in his Buick V6 powered 914. They couldn't make the tour, so they just met us there.

The Alpine had a great rustic atmosphere, and we all fit in there just
perfectly with no room to spare. Hey Phil, how did you discover that place anyway? After lunch, we stood out in the drizzle and chatted for some time before heading on our own separate ways.

We stayed the night in Sunnyvale at a 914'ers house (THANK YOU), had Afghan food for dinner, and then made our way back north via Hwy 1 once we got past the Golden Gate Bridge. Why couldn't we have had today's weather yesterday?

Again, thank you everyone who helped plan and attended the event.

We stayed in the South Bay with Dave D. The weather was perfect Sunday, so we pulled the top off and drove north to Santa Rosa via Hwy 1 once we got over the bridge. It was brrrrrr cold, but it was too sunny to stay cooped up with the top on.

We'll see you at the next event!

looked like you guys had a blast . Years back we had a small group of guys who would all get together with our 14's and take a blast thru red rock scenic loop here in Vegas.....sad to say about everyone has moved on to other cars now ( except me it seems...) .
As soon as I get the 2.0 rebuilt and get her pretties up a bit , I think I shall make a trip down for one of your gatherings , assuming outsiders are welcomed ?

They all bought other cars? You have failed your duty as a 914 owner to keep others in the cult! :-)

Outsiders are ALWAYS welcome.

Seems as though for one reason or another they have either moved away or are raising a family...lucky for me the wife understands my love for the 914...and my 8 year old son just loves when I pick him up from school in it .
I got out of the auto cross seen here in Vegas , it was thriving for along time then it got real lame.....sold off the autoX 914 ( it is now in Calif somewhere....glass flares , wide centerlines , 23mm tbars , koni adj with 180 # springs . It was a was horse.
Hopefully this summer I can get out and find where all the 914's are hiding in Vegas....i know there is one in my dads driveway and there is the one I just gave to a friend that we still have to finish.......come on Vegas 14's...where you guys hiding.
Can not use the " it's too cold " I drive mine EVERY day !!
And I took out my heat hoses and blower !!
