Alternative Alt. placement

Hey everyone,
As I am building up my Type IV, i am going to try to mount the alt. above the case as apposed to the side of the motor on the fan shroud because of a cooling system we are running using electronic fans. Is there a possible way to mount the Alt. above the case and have a pulley take the place of the fan to turn the alt? All of your help is greatly appreciated!

Thank You!
~Dust

You mean something like Fiberwerks' Double Barrel Cooling System?

They state "... kit includes the necessary hardware to mount a 1 wire alternator", but I don't see that evident on any of the pics. I don't get the impression that there's even a A/C compressor solution. That, and the assemblies are arranged so close to the firewall and distributor (forget a Mallory option), I wonder what kinda circulation is possible.

If yours is anything similar to this, all I can say is get ready for fab time.

I have a 911 fan/alt mounted on my race car engine and it is driven from a pulley on the crank. Generally this also requies the removal of the dip stick as the fan/alt assembly sits on the area where the old filler/dip stick area is. Works great and will cool a big four and supply lots of extra power too. Good luck.

Change the oil filler cap and assembly to a lower profile design and mount your alt. up top in the middle, drive it off the crank.

I don't like the idea of electric fans for a street driven car, I'd rather have those two fans with a belt setup.
