Rear heater blower

The wiring diagram shows one green wire coming out of the blower motor. However, I have both a green wire and a ground (brown wire). On the newer year wiring diagrams, it shows both the green and brown wires. Just trying to figure out how to read these diagrams. Does the "little black tee" thing indicate a groudn wire?

Also, anyone know how to add a picture and a few words to my user name? I see most people have that.

Edit your "profile".. there should be a check box somewhere to add an image. It will likely need to be resized per the instructions.

Who needs heat in a 914.. they are summer cars

Sounds dumb, but I bought the 914 for my winter car as I dont drive the AMG in the snow; I live in MN. Everyone thinks I am crazy - we will see. Thanks for the tip

I used mine in winter too.. My issue was it took forever for the motor to warm up.. and heat is only provided by warm engine temps.

there should be a connector for the fan to plug into. One wire (green) will come from the relay board the the brown wire is gound. I dont like the current flow diagrams and for this repair you can use the '73 wiring diagram:

Also on the relay board there should be a jumper from pin 10 to pin 11 on the 12 pin connector.

I used my '70 year round when I was much younger.. and to be fair, I don't remember if it DID or Did not have a rear blower motor. I assume if it did, it wasn't working or worse, it had been removed.

On my '76, I bought it in December and had to drive it 250 miles home in 40 degree weather. This one DID have a rear blower motor and even with only 1 of the two hoses connected, provided ample heat (but not till the motor was up to operating temp).

While a 914 cabin is so small and doesn't warrant it, it becomes obvious why VW (especially the BUS) had the option of an additional heater to warm things up!

Did you get the fan running yet? As I recall the earlier cars got the fan power from the end of the engine wiring harness (not the FI harness) there should be a plug for the fan to plug into. Perhaps it is buried in the engine compartment near the oil filler or it's shoved under the intake plenum. The wire harness usually runs from the relay board around the back of the engine and into the center of the engine and the plug should be at the tail end.

Yes but my first "half ass" repair on the car. I installed a jerry rigged switch with an inline fuse to the battery as a temporary fix. The motor works fine now....

There is definitely a plug and the ground (brown wire) works but not the power wire (green) is dead. I think the problem may be within the regulator board relay or fuse, which I need to check next. The fuel pump works fine and so does everything else so this issue is isolated to the rear heater blower. This is an iterative process and I am learning.
