155 on a long deserted stretch of road. 7200 rpm 3 liter 10.5:1 with 245 / 16s, front and rear spoilers. it was light and wandering a little. i could still keep it in the lane, and there was more throttle /speed left, but felt that was enough...
Now the same motor has another 300 cc, so it might get there a little faster, but no thanks |
My car is also gearing-limited to around 130-135 depending exactly when the rev limiter kicks in and which wheel/tire combo I'm running. It is pretty manageable at that speed, but I would not want to go much faster without serious aerodynamic aids...

As mentioned at over 125 mph the stock body 914 starts to float. V8 H gear
My son says it will go much faster :) |

126 i think
over saddle road (lava field, divided hwy over the top of the island, 3 mile run, didn't see another car for the whole run) i got indicated 126 at 5250 r's but i have different overall sized tires and from that my speedo is supposed to be off like .5 mph in error. i have a c2 as well and it did indeed feel like 126 judging by the fenceposts going by. it's a stock tranny. i'm running 245/40 17s in back with 215/45 17's in front. yes i have gt flares and 5 lug (911 struts and brakes in front). i probably could gear it faster but the body air downforce seems light compared to my carreras at speed, and i don't think it's got the torque to pull anymore. 126 didn't feel balanced, though the car does under 100. it needs a rear wing at least and probably a better front spoiler than i'm running. it's still way fun, good thing there's no traffic to speak of here, as this engine would not last long in traffic. cheers, geoff

I had my 1970 up to 145 at 5800 rpm in fifth back about 1971-2. That was what the speedo was saying and I don't know if it was correct. It was scary enough that I never took it up there again. 130 is fairly easy even now. It is the stock 2.0 6yl.

Once owned the original 914-6GT that won the GTU class at the 71' 24 0f Daytona.
Took it to Rennsport III in order to try and replicate what Duval & Bailey must have experienced some 26 years earlier. Got it up to 147 -150 mph thru NASCAR 3/4 and I must say it was a white knuckle job the whole way..No aero , rather narrow bias ply tires, but a 2.0 ltr Carrera six motor putting out about 220hp. I can't imagine doing this for 24 hours without screwing something up one way or the other but they did it and finished first in class and 7th overall. Out on the track with 917's, Ferrari 512's etc,etc took a lot of skill not to mention a little luck. They didn't have one mechanical issue the entire time. You can see the car on Armando's site.its the #5 car. Tom B. |

Where can i get a 5th ZD gear for a 901 tranny. Anyone have a ballpark figure on how much.
|
Carquip in Colorado has almost every gear for the 901. $330-$700 each.

105 MPH at Lewistown MT. DE day.
Best part was, I had a brand new GT2 on my ass. So close I couldn't see the headlights. That was fun. |
Thnx kg6dxn! do they have a web site or #.

115+ @ Reno Stead Airport (home of the Air Races) during PCA event some years back...felt like it could do more but ran out of straight (2.2 S w/914GT suspension & brakes). |
6500rpm in 5th (stock gearing), Raby 2270-180, on 205/50-15 along the big straight at Mid-Ohio. Quite a rush :D

70 -6 with the pedal flat on the floor and the speedo reading 125. Stock motor and car. The world really flashes by at that speed, too.
