Values of 914/6's

What are 914/6's worth nowadays? I have seen them in the 10-12 range and also in the 15-20 range. Whats a converted car worth and what are they selling for. Has anyone sold a converted 914, if so what did you get for it. I drove a factory 914/6 and was not impressed at all with the power, it was pretty quick and fun but it just didnt do anything for me. I need to find a 2.7-3.2 914 and go from there, but if I do find one what can I expect to pay for it. I would like to be in a turnkey car in the 12-15 range that needs nothing.

And you'll be looking for a long time.

Basket cases...little more than a boxes of parts...will run 8-10K.

Excellently restored examples run into the mid 20's and up.

A 10-12K original 6 will be running but tired and incomplete.

No one sells your dream car exactly as you picture it.

If you haven't already done so, you might check out the 914-6 conversion guide here on the 914 tech forum. It provides a good idea of what needs to be done mechanically. The quality of the conversions can vary dramatically from car to car, not to mention all the other stuff (interior, exterior, etc.) you already know about. For a good look at a very high quality conversion(and a good idea of what costs COULD be involved), check out Karl Johnson's car in the Owner's Gallery. The more cars you can look at (and drive), the more focused you will become in terms of knowing what you want from the car. I think, in the end, any given car is worth what someone (you, maybe) is willing to pay for it. The more you look, the more likely you are to find what you want. Or, maybe like a lot of folks, you will decide to "roll your own," whatever it costs. Either way, good luck and keep us informed.

You will pay a premium for a 914/6 original.... Look for a conversion car 2.7 or larger. Ask Mike Z to help you find one.
