Smog equip & other stuff etc..
I have owned all early 914's never a 75. Was there any smog equipment on the 75 2.0. If so how hard is it to remove and what do you need to do to keep it running correctly?
Also i'm switching the bumpers to 74 or older bumpers. What would be a fair asking price? These are original and the car has not been babied buy any means but they aren't damage. Also not fog light openings on the bumpers ![]() ![]() Any info on either questions I do appreciate |

There is a limited market for '75-76 bumpers. They were large and heavy. Only someone restoring such a car is likely to show interest. Might be worth storing in the garage and try selling them in a few more years as more folks try to restore "any" year 914.
In '75 and '76, it was primarily California that was forcing heavy smog emission on cars. Very oftern there were "california spec" and "49 state" cars available. My '76 had a specific sticker, as a 49 state car, of "no catalyst" in the door jam. Conceivabnly, along with an air pump and charcoal canister, the car could have had a catalytic converter. not sure if the equipment varied between the 1.8 and the 2.0's that were offered in '75. IIRC, Cali folks prefer a '75 car because they DON'T need to keep emissions garb.. but a '76 would.

Air pump, air pump drive, EGR, EGR tubing, Air Injection Tubing & injectors into the exhaust ports, piping to the muffler. Pull all the crap off and plug the holes in the heads. I left the injector tubes in and capped them with a 3/8 pipe cap. No other mods needed.
If you can find and afford the '73-'74 exhaust system it would be highly beneficial. Once you do that, it will have the same HP as the '73 - '74 2.0L

Keep your smog stuff for the 76 guys. the parts are swapable and not easy to find. You could sell it here or 914 world.
