TIV performance engine video, I need input.

Okay,
Everyone, especially lurkers, you need to read this and make a post.

The guys at bug me video and I are in final preparation for the Performance TIV video, and we must make a decision. There are two options that we have, both will be a superior product, just like the last volume we did with them. Here is the ideas.

Due to the amount of time needed to build one engine completely and show the highlights we have the possibility of building 2 engines, using 2 different cooling systems, 100% from scratch.

If we do a single engine we would be able to sell the videos for less money, if we build two engines we can show each of them in detail, make it another full 3 hour tape and sell if for a little more money. Here are the ideas:

Idea #1
we would build a single 2270 from scratch, no tear down. The build would start with parts prepared on the bench, and ready for assembly. This would be near the same as the stock video in content but would show more detail with clearancing, and some with compression ratio calculations and etc. This single engine would be dynoed on the spot when we are done with it, right on video.
This video would sell for 39.95, or really close to that.

Idea#2
This is the idea that I like, but it is more work for all involved, and would require me to shut the shop down for twice as long, but I feel it would be well worth the differences, as we can justify it with a little added expense on the video.

We would build 2 engines, one 2056 and one 2270. The 2056 would be based on our "A" version and (would be compatible with 914 Stock fuel injection for the Porsche guys) and would utilize a DTM and show every part of the DTM modifications needed (few)This engine would be built 100% from scratch, and be based from the parts used in my kits. We would dyno this engine totally. The Porsche enthusiast can just assemle the longblock and then assemble their sheetmetal back just as it would be in stock form, and overlook the install of the conversion kit.

If we do it this way we will base the second engine on a 2270 "D" version kit, using the 911 shroud kit and will show in detail the mods needed to do it, including machining and weld work. The 2270 will be shown from scratch just like the 2056, we can make comparisons between the two, and compare the dyno results after we are done. While it is on the dyno we can make some changes on video (like the install of the mallory distributor) and prove on the spot what happens on the dyno.

This video would sell for 59.95, but would be well worth it since the enthusiast could judge from the video which engine would fit the appplication best, as well as what is needed for each to be assembled.

What I need from you guys is input, we can do it either way but we must make it fit our smaller market the best it possibly can. I personally think that showing 2 engines will make the video much more interesting as comparisons can be made between the two powerplants and proven on the dyno. We want to make this video kick ass, and help those who want to build something themselves as much as possible. The opening scenes of the video will be unreal, they gave me the go ahead to make it as wild as I want and I have some really cool ideas, including "displays of performance" I'll let you figure it out.

Now be heard, tell me what to do!

Jake,

I vote for video #2 also.

Keep in mind that you can still make both videos. You can make the single specific video for the 2056 or the 2270 from the content used on the combined video. You know your market of more popular engine types, so it would certainly be beneficial to have a video specific to that model.

PS: I never did receive the first video. I don't recall being charged for it, so its not a big deal. And with the work you're doing on the Massive Type IV, I'd just as soon wait.

Regards,

doing 2 tapes is really tough, it tyakes alot to make one, and I figure if we do 2 of them that we can also do alot of caomparisons, including dyno runs.

Video #2, fer sure.

It might also help dispel a few myths; that T-IV's (when assembled properly, of course) CAN handle more than 130HP and provide longevity (with today's technology and resources).

I'll be the cortrarian.
at over $100 Canadian, I'd be less likely to buy the second video on a whim, but I'd snap up the first at half that as I did your first video.
Keep your shop open. Sell the sizzle. Put the DTM on the 2270 as an option, explain your product line with sexy demos and sell many more videos at the lower price.
Between your two videos, with the DTM option explained, any 914 enthusiast who would tackle a rebuild would surely be able to build the 2056.
There! Divergent opinion.

This video is not about selling things, it is about making a useful tool to further the TIV....Trust me, selling things is not my area of expertise...

I supply the masses with real information, let them educate themselves and make their own decision, thats why I asked what you guys wanted out of a video....

I dunno, for some reason I can't seem to suppress this desire to buy one of your 2270 kits... I got sold on the idea somehow! ;-) The less expensive video would be more accessible to all - equates with higher sales.

As a novice engine builder, I could really use measurement tricks and methods (blueprinting?) and the stuff I ought to be communicating to the machine shop who may not know TIV the way you do.
The comparison aspect with dyno you favour would really be good - one of the more interesting mags I have is dedicated to T1 engine building options with mods and dyno results with each incremental change.

Your first video was great, and I look forward to the second.

Jake....

I would go for the 2nd idea....it would help in the decision process of what rebuild to go with....I'm undecided myself!

Thanks,

Mike

Jake,

I too have your other video. (Bug Me #8??? can't remember the number). The production quality was great and what impressed me was the amount of content.

If you can do option #2 without compromising content, then that is what I would prefer. The $59.95/US price is not an issue there.

What I would like to see in the video is more information specificate to the 914 where it differs from the VW.

Let us all know on the board when we can buy whatever you decide to do.
